Cloning the drive will damage it further, like anything else, so be aware that this is not risk-free, and could be the nail in the coffin for the drive after all it's been through.

This is the software that would have (most likely) succeeded in extracting the data if it had been used before everything else (of course hindsight is 20/20). If the data on the drive doesn't justify professional costs, then the only other reasonable thing that could be attempted is cloning/imaging it onto stable media using HDDSuperClone (link in sidebar).

I strongly recommend you stop everything and send the drive to a professional lab before things are made even worse. That may or may not still be possible, but the your chances are certainly lower now that the drive has been further degraded. In hindsight, the fact that it actually passed the test at some point means that the drive was capable of being read in its entirety, and the data could have been extracted to another healthy drive using the appropriate software. Running a "complete check" on a drive is effectively reading all of its data to nowhere, and further damaging it in the process, IOW torturing it for no benefit. Running tests on the drive will never fix the issues that it's having, however everything you do with a failing drive will make its condition worse. Sorry, but this was a really, really bad thing to do. After a bit more fiddling and assigning a different letter to the drive, I was able to get the drive to pass all three checks, I also was able to run the Smart Check, Quick Check and Complete Check through WD Drive Utilities and at first, only passed the Smart Check. I do have a tech savvy friend who agreed to look into this for me, but wondered if with this limited description someone would be able to help me. Is there a way to pull the files off this drive- i do not care to salvage the drive itself, just the files on it. I have troubleshot this drive as much as I am able (uninstaling device/drivers, among other things) and am upset thinking all the data I have on this drive will be lost.

The parameters are incorrect OR F:/ is not accessible, the device is not ready. If i try to access the drive, i received two errors: F:/ is not accessible. After a bit more fiddling and assigning a different letter to the drive, I was able to get the drive to pass all three checks, but now, it is no longer being recognized in that software.

I have disabled it as a virtual CDRom, and was able to remove the password I had on it. I have a WD Passport Essential that at first, would only be recognized as a CDRom when plugged to the computer.
